Eating more fruits and vegetables can make you happier!

A new study soon to be published in the American Journal of Public Health was conducted at the University of Warwick and the results indicate that eating more fruits and vegetables can substantially increase people’s happiness levels. In addition to that it confirmed traditional findings that fruits and vegetables also reduced risk of cancer and heart attacks.
The research showed the people who change from having almost no food and vegetables to 8 portions a day would experience an increase in their life satisfaction rate that was the equivalent of going from being unemployed to employed. And these improvements occurred within 24 months. Most astounding was that levels of happiness were detected for each extra daily portion of fruit and vegetables up to 8 portions a day.
The researchers think it may be possible that the mechanism is the antioxidants in fruits and vegetables that can affect brain chemistry and decrease feelings of anxiety and depression. For example there are studies showing the connection between optimism and carotenoids in the blood. Carotenoid is an antioxidant found in fruits vegetables.
This is yet another study confirming our philosophy that the best way to build a strong mind and a strong body is holistically with the healthy diet as part of the program.
